How to recalibrate when the year is almost over
I mean, it's not. But you know how this goes. Blink twice and it's Q4. Blink again and it's holiday out-of-office replies and “wait, how is it already December?” And it's been an incredibly unpredictable year.
So it makes sense if your current strategy is just keep swimming and try not to drown. While I'm not advocating drowning, I do think it's a good time to stop swimming (just for a moment) and hop in your imaginary (eco-friendly) private plane and zoom up to 20,000 feet.
While you're up there, here's what I want you to ask yourself:
How are you defining success for this year and are you on track? Beyond hitting your numbers and your OKRs:
When you think about your work (or your life), do you feel energized or just… tired?
Are you growing as a leader in a way that feels meaningful to you?
Does your team actually understand where they're going? Do they care?
How are you showing up as both a professional and a parent/partner/daughter/son/friend (without losing your mind)?
The world feels chaotic right now. But you still get to have a say in how you define success for yourself this year and you can absolutely be intentional in making it happen.
Here's a simple mid-year recalibration you can do:
If the next 6 months look like the last 6, how will I feel in December?
How would I want it to go instead?
What's actually under my control, and where can I choose differently?
Who are the people I need to enroll to support this vision so it actually happens?
I also mentioned a 1:1 half-day “Mid-Year Visioning” retreat offer in this one.
